Xpress Redi-Set-Go Review

Xpress Redi-Set-Go Review

As we stated earlier in our preview, the Xpress RediSetGo (www.redisetgo.com) is an indoor electric cooker. The Redi-Set-Go is the new incarnation of the venerable GT Xpress 101 which has been on TV for years. Both are infomercial products which we always eye with a healthy dose of suspicion. The new grill is already catching GTX bloggers interest. Cathy Mitchell, pitch woman for the Xpress Redi-Set-Go, claims the cooker can help anyone make quick, delicious, inexpensive and healthy meals at home.

We put our evaluation unit through the grueling paces at Gonzo Kitchens to see if the unit can deliver on that infomercial promise.

First Impressions

The cooker looks good for starters – the design folks definitely improved on the bland and somewhat cheap look of the GT Xpress 101. The Express ReadySetGo has a fire engine red finish and sweeping ‘handles’ on the sides. We were initially disappointed by the plastic cover – it feels well-constructed but we just hoped it would be metal like it’s color-mate the Kitchenaid. However a lighter cover makes sense as the cooker has a floating hinge to allow foods to rise while cooking. On the bright side we immediately dug the arrangement of controls on the lid – the timer and on/off switch are simple but appealing. Our cooker came with two insertable pans – a divider pan and a “mini food” pan (for making appetizers, mini-treats, etc). You can remove these to serve food and they are dishwasher safe.

The unit also comes with a recipe book with lots of recipes plus a foldout recipe mini-booklet with a handful more. Some are the ones you see in the infomercial itself. Finally you get a space age double-sided spatula to retrieve meals from the Redi-Set-Go.

xrsg_pizzaFast Healthy Meal #1: Pizza

We hit the grocery store to test out the Express RediSetGo. We brushed a small amount of olive oil in the base of the unit (no insertable pan was used) and hit “On” to pre-heat the unit. The pre-heat was very fast – roughly 45 seconds.

Here’s the Gonzo Pizza recipe: Place a wheat pita bread, about 6″ wide, in the pre-heated RediSetGo. Top with a few spoonfuls of pizza sauce. Add pepperoni slices, banana peppers and shredded cheese. Very simple! Close the lid, set the timer to 7 minutes and wait.

It smelled great after only a few minutes – but we were still surprised at the results when the timer went “Ding!” The crust had gotten perfectly crispy without being burnt and the toppings were well cooked but not over-cooked.

The final verdict? A delicious personal pizza.

xrsg_pancakeFast Healthy Meal #2: German Puffy Pancake

This is a favorite at Gonzo Kitchens, but nothing like it is in Cathy Mitchell’s included recipe book. So we figured this might very well be a failure. A German Pancake rises like a souffle and sinks in the center as it cools.

Mix 4 eggs, 1 cup milk (we used Skim), 1 cup flour, 1 tsp vanilla. To cook, add just enough batter to cover the base of the Xpress Redi-Set-Go with a thin layer.

We guessed and set the timer to 7 minutes. This recipe takes 30 minutes in a normal oven at 350 degrees!

The first pancake turned out great. It puffed up within the unit and browned on top and bottom, just like in an oven. This results in a light and crispy pancake breakfast. Top with a little butter, powdered sugar and lemon juice, or just use some melted butter/margarine and maple syrup like a normal pancake.

Next we added a favorite spin – we thinly sliced & peeled a Gala apple. We added batter as above to the unit, then placed a few apple slices on top, along with a sprinkling of cinnamon and brown sugar. Not bad with our double latte from our other Gonzo Kitchen’s favorite – the DeLonghi Magnifica ESAM3300 espresso machine.

The final verdict? Delicious and easy breakfast and wayfaster than baking in an oven!

Summary & Recommendation

As you probably guessed, we enjoyed cooking with Cathy’s Mitchell’s Express Ready-Set-Go. Our first two meals were unqualified successes and got us thinking about new things to try. The Redi-Set-Go truly makes quick food, and it’s versatile with the insertable pans and ability to cook, bake, steam and grill all in one small unit which is easy to store. We like that it pre-heats so quickly and it cooks quickly. This is the perfect solution when cooking for yourself or for two.

We were very happy with our experience with the Xpress Redi-Set-Go and we will admit that this is one infomercial product that delivers the goods. See below for more photos of our tests.

Highly recommended!

For now the Xpress Redi-Set-Go appears to be available only at the Xpress Redi-Set-Go official site or via 800 number (see site for details).

  5. Thanks for the info, I was wondering if the problem with the teflon surface getting easily scratched after only a few uses has been fixed with this newer version?
I almost bought that one until I saw the mixed reviews, if its better than I will be buying this new one. Thank you.

  7. I waited for the newer version & just ordered it by phone. The shipping fees are steep = $17.00 !
I may cancel my order tomorrow (no customer service on weekends) & see if I can buy one at Bed Bath & Beyond, using their 20% off coupon.
$56.85 is NOT what I wanted to pay, given the teaser of $39.90.

  11. Update:
    1. Shipping fees are steep for everything now, so I take back my rant on that.
2.After using the RSG machine twice, I like it. I’m a single gay man & the pan w/ 2 sections is great.
    3. I’m being extra careful with it = I seasoned the teflon; I place the pans w/ the handle @ “7 o’clock; & I clean it gently.
I’m not afraid to “eat crow” = maybe in a mini-pie!

  13. I just got mine in. Tried the chicken cordon bleu and fruit filled pastry. Worked great.Clean up was a little more with sticky cheese but just added warm water and let sit for a few min.
The next day tried the pizza with the pizza dough recipe. Just like a pizza places if not better. Really glad I bought this one.

  15. I have 2 of the Xperss101’s and love them. Cooks quick and easy. The only problem was the Teflon comes off with continued use. I solved that problem by putting aluminin foil, shaped into the wells and then placed the food on top of that. The food cooked the same and when finished, just lift the foil out and place on your plate and NO CLEAN UP NEEDED in the 101. Works great!

  23. I got mine Friday. I also ordered the extra pans to go with it. I will be getting the remaining two soon. We love it. I made mini corn dogs using a mexican cornbread mix. Last night I made chocolate cakes using toffee chips in some and mint chocolate chips in others. They turned out well. Cleanup was very easy. I am glad that I waited until the RSG came out. I do think that for what you pay for everything that all the recipes should be free and not have to pay to get new ones sent to you. That is really the only complaint that I would have. My daughter can’t wait to try out the pizza recipes.

  24. Sue Ann on May 3rd, 2009
  25. You wouldn’t need to buy two unless you wanted everything done at exactly the same time. But since it cooks so quickly, you really wouldn’t need that. One should be sufficient.

  27. I have a Redi-Set-Go and I recently reviewed it on my website, http://www.cookblogs.com/ The review can be found here.

But if you don’t have time to go to the site (or you can’t be bothered) this is the review in a nutshell. This is a great competitor to the George Foreman Indoor Grill since it is essentially the same thing. However, unlike the Foreman, it can also bake and most foods can be cooked in under 10 minutes. In my opinion, the Express Redi-Set-Go is like a top-end version of the Foreman grill but at half the price of many of the Foreman models.

  28. Jason on May 6th, 2009
  29. I got the express 101 (two for the price of one deal) for my husband and in the first one he used, he practically scraped off all of the teflon and I tossed it (I wasn’t smart enough to do the foil trick I just read), and with with the second one, it still is working great and he is treating it much better–as you can probably tell, he makes his own breakfast, lol. So, I was greatly surprised to see this one and I got three of them: one for my darling husband and one for me and then the third is for my 85 year old mother. I can’t wait go get these.

Now, here is my question: the telephone ordering was automated (I hate automated stuff) and it kept asking if I wanted this, and when I said yes, it asked if I wanted that, and I said yes, and of course, there were fifteen million other add-ons and I finally got wise and said no to another 15 million add-ons. I have been trying to search the website to see what add-ons I agreed to and I can’t find anything. Any suggestions or help? Or, do I just have to wait for my email confirmation or wait until I receive stuff. :)

Thanks in advance and also thanks for the review and recipes.
    Hugs,
    Dottie

  37. I just bought this from Ebay for £2.50 (£5 postage) as my 101 was scratched beyond repair and I thought this was an old earlier model but might be close to what I had lost. Anyway it arrived today and have now realised its the new model as the book says 2008 and have to say it is soooooooo fab! all the improvements are perfect and I will be odering the extra 4 pans set with bonus silicone pan holder next payday as this solves the problem of clean up totaly coz then the pans go straight in the dishwasher! Love it Love it Love it!!!!!!!

  39. I’ve been watching the infomercial since the first time I’ve watched it and I’m very interested in buying one. The review above is about the cooking. It seems like it’s fast and foods turn out to be delicious. But I’m a little concern about the cleaning. Is it really easy to clean like Cathy said in the infomercial? And I also hope that someday, the company will make a redi set go with ptfe free and pfoa free so they can cater to those ones also who don’t want to use cookwares with teflon.

  41. sorry, but doesn’t seem like much of a test. in the pizza, basically you were toasting a ready-made product with some stuff on top. In the pancake, yes, from-scratch and it sounds good. but still pretty snack-y to me, and both tests work with the same temp & cooking conditions (baking).

the product’s “pitch” is full meals, multi-course meals, for every meal: grilled beef, roast chicken plus pilaf, baked potatoes, quick bread, along side the animal entree. even casseroles (remember “stuffed soup”?).

you didn’t touch on any of this, which is at least half of the infomercial.

  43. I almost ordered the Express 101 to share with my daughter, but am so glad I waited for the “new and improved”. However, I can’t share if I can’t get two for the price of one deal here as well. Would you allow me to do that, 2 payments of $19.95 and receive 2 Redi, Set, Go. Thanks.

  45. This thing is awesome. I’ve only had it for a week, and I’ve been eating pizza for lunch and dinner. It’s fun trying different types of breads, sauces, cheeses, and toppings. I haven’t used it for much else though. The pizza from the infomercial sold me on getting this. I can have my personalize pizza within 10 minutes of thinking about it. Well, my timer just went off so I’m off to enjoy my pizza. There are alot of things I could say, but I’m satisfied so there’s no need to say more.

  53. Can somebody tell me the deal with the pan set? On the website it makes it seem like the extra pan set is four pans and a hand thing. The tiny print says each “shipment” contains two pans for $19.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling. If you eventually get the eight pans listed on the help page then they will cost you $100 for eight instead of $20 for four as it appears to be advertised. That is some very sneaky and annoying business right there. Anybody have this? Enlighten me please.

  55. Just ordered one myself. They sneak in the recipe book at $9.95 making the total on the confirmation page over $70. I am still looking forward to using it, since I loved my Foreman Grill…but don’t like the sneak attack on adding the recipe book. And there is no way to remove it…grr!

  57. I purchased the GT exptess and after using it only 1 time, the teflon coating started to flake off. (yes I had seasoned it with oil)

Can anyone tell me if this has the heavy non-stick coating like the later models of the GT express? I am really wanting to buy the Ready Set Go. but have that concern.
    Thanks

  59. I received my xpress redi-set-go this week and I am extremely impressed. I have made breakfast (omelets, stuffed french toast) lunches (panini, pizza) and dinners (calzones, burger with onions mushrooms and peppers) and desserts (chocolate coconut bites and lemon poppyseed bites) in the cooker and every single one was perfect. I have even adapted my own recipes for the unit and they work perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone who has to cook for one or two people and especially for use in the summer when turning on the oven is the last resort to cook a meal.
    Happy Cooking- (Xpressing)

  61. I figure I add some more to my original comment. It’s only fair, being that the main reason I came to this page is to read people’s comments. Reading the individual comments on the internet really helped me in deciding whether or not to get this. I just finished watching the infomercial, and YES, it’s just like it is in the infomercial. The only thing that might have made mine food seem a bit different from the infomercial is the amount of food I used. By the looks of it, for somethings I was using to much of the ingredients and for other things not enough. But I’m not a good cook to begin with, and those are Cathy’s recipes that she’s perfected. Before the Redisetgo, I was more of a microwave guy instead of an oven and stove guy. So in that regards, it does take just a bit longer to make the food, but I really don’t mind. The quality more than makes up for it. The cooking times in the infomercial are accurate. I tried making a steak and set it for 5 minutes, and some how, it was overcooked. And the steak wasn’t really that thin. I guess that just goes to show the cooking power, or at least my lack of cooking knowledge. I ordered online and my total was 56.85. That was 40 dollar for the Redisetgo and 16.85 for shipping, and I got it the next week. They do try to offer the other stuff when you checkout, but just find the no button till you get to the final confirmation. Later on I tried the online recipe exchange, but there were some technical issues with my user name and password, so they refunded my money and told me to try making another account. I do intended on buying the other trays once I start cooking more things. The cleanup is pretty simple. Just make sure you use anti stick safe things. One time I couldn’t the spatula that came with it, so I grabbed a metal fork instead. I didn’t think it would scratch it being that the coating seems pretty durable, but it did. It didn’t mess up the coating, but just a word of caution. The RSG has a 1 year warranty. It looks well built. I’m really hoping this isn’t something that works well in the beginning and then breaks after a month. It doesn’t seem like it, but time will tell. Well, I’m off to make yet another pizza. Oh and the food really does get hot. I’ve burnt my mouth several times because I couldn’t wait for the pizza to cool down before enjoying it. So be careful with that.

  62. Gonzo on June 21st, 2009
  63. Yes, the teflon does flake off, I ordered the pan set, which has the large size pan as a bonus, so I will not have to use the base again. I did this instead of returning the machine as it would cost more to ship it back, and pay for a new one, than buying the pans which I wanted anyway.

  64. SUSAN on June 27th, 2009
  65. Well, I just ordered mine. After reading the rave reviews I finally did it. Been thinking about it for some time now. And they tacked the recipe book on for 9.95 which made the shipping go up about 5 bucks. I didn’t even see it coming! I wasn’t real happy about that, but oh well. I am sure I’ll use it and what the heck, it’s only money. I get so tired of trying to think of what to cook and now I should have plenty of ideas. After all, one trip to Burger King or McDonalds will pay for the extra $$ I spent. I hate cooking so this should be great. I do not have a family so it’ll be big enough for me. Thanks everyone for the opinions.

  69. I watched the informercial also and I do trust Kathy. I’ve never seen her speak for a product that wasn’t worthy. Having said that, I’m a single retiree and paying too much for food these days like everyone else. I’m trying hard to get off “processed” food and this seems like my answer. I love to eat good food but for a single person this means eating that first meal three or so times…Boring!

I’m so glad I came here to read all of your wonderful, honest and knowledgeable reviews. This seems like such a healthier way and inexpensive too. Thanks to you all.

But I have only used it about 10 times and the red paint is starting to bubble up on the top of it and it makes a snapping sound while I am using it. I will have my replacement in 7-10 days. Great item, great service!!

  75. Just a little FYI, I worked in a Farberware store for a few years and one of the things i learned is NOT to use Pam or any arisol sprays on non stick surfaces such as Teflon, due to it breaks it down faster meaning the teflon flakes off. They suggest using a pump which you can pick up at any kitchen store and fill it with what ever oil you prefer. I have found my Teflon on this and other items are lasting alot longer. I would not trade my Redi-Set-Go for anything. I made unfried chicken breasts in it and they were done in 15 min, with a nice cruncy coating. I dipped the boneless skinless breasts in a beaten egg and rolled it in Italian bread crumbs brushed the redi-set-go with a little olive oil and 15 minutes later wonderful chicken. Crispy and juicy. Hope everyone has fun creating new and wonderful dish’s, I know I will.

  81. My RSG is due to arrive tomorrow and already I’m a little ticked off. I opted to pay for this in two payments. After checking my bank balance, I see that they did not split the payment. It’s a little thing I know, but why make the offer of two payments and then not follow through? I will keep checking next month to be sure further “payments” are not deducted from my account.

  91. I too want to get a Redisetgo, but Iam concerned about the teflon and/or plastic. I do not like to work with aluminum pans or foils to cook in, store liqid or drink from al cans. Al has been implicated in Alzheimers and research shows that the brains nerves show entaglements due to al uses. Al is also in some antipersperants, some antacids, etc. Not en essential vitamin! I would not mind paying for stainless style inserts or bases. Might look for heat safe glass inserts, or pyrex large enough and flat enough to get into these grills.
Will need a bit more info what is used in that wonder gadget.

  99. I watched the TV commercial and additional websites. It seems to me that only the divider pan is included (+ the bonus pan, etc.). When you watch the commercial, she uses a pizza pan. Reviewing the product pages, you have to order ADDITIONAL pans in order to get the pizza-type pan. That is an additional $19.95 plus S/H!

I think this is a BIG RIPOFF as per the commercial and actual product delivered. Federal laws as per truth in advertising should apply here!!

  101. I just got mine in the mail today and haven’t tried it yet so can’t comment on that. But, I did like all the reviews I’ve read here.

The shipping charge for me (in TX) was $21.90! I almost had a tizzy fit. I called them and asked why, and because I ordered (actually, didn’t say no) the recipe books, they were an additional $4.95 S/H. I told them the books came in the same box as the machine and it didn’t cost them that in postage. Jen did say she would reimburse me the $4.95.

  105. I’m anxious to receive the Redisetgo. It’ll be perfect for my odd meal schedules. The fact that it’s fast and easy is a plus. The reviews were very helpful in my decision to buy. I didn’t like the automated phone ordering. It was ok until they offered all the extra items. It confused me at first. I thought I misunderstood the infomercial and had to order the extra items in order to get the bonus items. It was in the way they made the offer that confused me.

  111. OK, I am ALMOST hooked into whipping out the credit card to get this machine. I’ve read the reviews here and on another site, found the 30% off & free stuff link
    but my question is…

has anyone just baked a potato in this??? If so, how long did it take and did the skin burn?

I love a good baked potato, with crunchy skin, but I hate turning on the big oven for such a little thing…and then it takes an hour+.

I have 2 George Foreman grills. The original, then the super sized one that came with a free griddle. Can’t say I use them much, because I HATE cleaning them. So bulky. Then there is the good burned on steak juices…. So I want to make sure this unit would actually get USED.

But back to the baked potato. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Lori

  113. Thanks for the review it helped me make up my mind although Cathy is a fantastic “pitch woman”! Thought I’d give back. During checkout the redisetgo.com website will offer add-ons to your order. They are actually tempting just be sure to read the details carefully before saying Yes or No! I had one item added that I hadn’t understood was going to include a charge. The gentleman in customer service was easy to deal with and I had no problems removing it for me. Just a warning!

I bought through a site that has a RediSetGo Coupon. The discount may still work but it may expire. It’s http://saversxchange.com/xpress-redi-set-go-grill-save-over-30

  117. I have read all of the comments here. Although I was disappointed in the lackluster Gonzo testing I do believe this is a product well worth the 39.90+S&H cost after seeing all the RL testing you posters did. However, I am concerned at the system this company has set up for acquiring the additional insert pans and the recipes. This system, if my calculations are correct, will ultimately soak customers for almost $350 by the time they have all of the items. I mean c’mon.. how much can it cost to stamp out a handful of aluminum pans and print a cookbook? Being as the only option for getting these items is to sign up for periodic shipments, I will have to wait more than a year to receive all of the products and they are going to make a killing on recipe brochures and even a greater killing on a multitude of S&H charges. Why does this company not have a total package option that includes all of the insert pans and the complete recipe book? Maybe a binder to put the recipe brochures in with the ability to add future recipe books as they are released. ?? The infomercial plainly states that the initial order includes ALL recipes shown in the infomercial yet some people that posted here are saying they have purchased many of the recipe books and still don’t have all the recipes shown in the informercial yet. How many total recipes are there in all of the recipe books combined? This may be a great product but from the posts people have made regarding hidden charges, addition of products/charges they had not wanted or intended to purchase and improper handling of multi-payments this is sounding more like a scam with the RSG item as the bait. Why would anyone spend almost $350 for a countertop cooker for 2 with 10 aluminum inserts and a cookbook that comes in pieces and you have to wait over a year to get them all?? Someone please help me out here. This company has a great product.. why must they use trickery, deception and massive S&H charges to make their money? They need to fire all the marketing guru’s (use that term loosely) and just box up a full package for $99.95 (incl ALL of the recipes available), throw in $25 for shipping and start filling the Fed-Ex trucks as fast as they can arrive at the factory. I’m sure the orders would pour in even faster than they do now. And their customer service dept. wouldn’t have to spend so much time fielding calls from people who are upset because they got billed for 50% more money than they intended to pay. The orders would be completed faster because customers would’nt have to sift through a dozen add-on offers on the phone. This current system is wrong in so many ways. I think they will not be getting my money even though I may want and like this product… I dislike being ripped off for $350 even more.

  119. First off, though my screen name is Gonzo, but I am not associated with this website or the RSG.

To all that feel that this product/service is a bit deceptive in one way or another.

Unfortunately, that’s the “As Seen On TV” game. The reason the majority of these items are not sold in stores is because they don’t really work. People would buy them, figure out they don’t work, return them to the store, and get their money back. Selling only by phone/online makes that process a bit tougher, so much that most people will just keep the product and the company keeps their money. The RSG is good enough to sell in stores and eventually it will, just as Express 101 is now sold in stores. And not as an As Seen On TV product, but as a regular kitchen appliance. Yes, the ordering process is pushy, but if you go in knowing what you want and what to expect, then you can make it a lot easier. I ordered online and was done in 10 minutes. I knew I just wanted the appliance and that there was going to be a shipping and handling fee. $16.85 is not a bad price to pay to get it that next week, that is if you order it early in the week. You have to pay attention to the fine print. The infomercial/website says free upgrade to express shipping, which does not mean free shipping. It means that they would normally charge you &16.85 and you would get the RSG in 3-4 weeks, possibly more. With the free upgrade you get it in 7-10 business days. When I ordered online, I expected to get spammed with additional offers. I just kept clicking the NO button and my final total was &56.85. If you went through the process and your total is more and you didn’t want any of the extras, then close your browser and try it again. Don’t let them bamboozle you. I would suggest ordering online. But if you want to order by phone I would suggest calling the customer service number and not the automated system number. If you can order using that number and they try to offer you the extras then make it really clear in an assertive voice that you do not want any of the extras. They will get the message and will go straight to finalizing your order. It’s just like anything else that comes with extras. If after getting the RSG, you really like it and you find a need for the extras, then maybe they might be worth it to you. If you don’t use the RSG much, then don’t order the extras. If after ordering/getting/using the extras, and they don’t seem worth it, then cancel/return the books/pans. I’ve watched the infomercial since I’ve gotten the RSG, and yes all the recipes that are seen on TV come in the initial order. The Turkey Meatball recipe is on page 22 of the main recipe book. A package with everything would be nice, but not everyone wants/needs the extras or is willing to pay for them when they would rather just have the appliance. Especially if they have no need to try the extras. I’m not defending the company or their practices, but unfortunately that how the game goes. My experience hasn’t been without it’s faults. Some of the coating has come off, but that was my own fault. I also later ordered the online recipe exchange, but somehow never got my username and password and had trouble getting that from customer service. I recently got a NuWave Oven Pro (20322) and have been using it more than the RSG. If you have the counter space and money, I highly recommend it. I bought my at the exchange for $120. The next best deal I could find is on Amazon for $140 with free shipping. I would not recommend ordering directly from the company, especially when you don’t have to.

  121. Gay is just another word, Shawn and Jackie. It’s not the “always” use of it that’s likely to be what you object to. It’s “any” use of it at all, from the sound of your comments.

Now, about the matter at hand: I ordered a “Redi-Set-Go” today, online. No ‘extras’ were thrown in without my permission, and no worries. It looks like a big improvement over the Xpress 101, which I was also considering. Can’t wait to start cranking out mini-pizzas in the thing.

  123. I got the RediSetGo and it makes great omelets. The only thing that made me really mad is that I thought I was charged $20 more dollars than initially thought because by default they send you a recipe book for $10 and it’s easy to not know about it. Also, the shipping was originally less than $20 but then it went slightly over that.
So be careful with your money–ask a lot of questions.

  125. I love the Redi Set Go. I order the Redi Set Go on July 19 2009. The total cost $82.50 since we wanted the extra pan set. My email stated 7-10 days. 10 days later I called for a status update. It was back ordered. I was going to canceled since I saw the 101 in the store for $29.99a and I am inpatient. They some how managed to find one because they sent it out that day. It is great. My 11 year old daughter loves it. We made omelets and pineapple cake as soon. We tried the candy bar cake in the muffin pan with kisses like it said, but the kisses didn’t melt. I would suggest chocolate chip if you try it. It is perfect for my kids so they can make a hot breakfast before school.

  131. I always wonder why people complain about add-ons and shipping and handling. First,if you go to a retail store to buy a product, assessories are often in another package for an additional price.

Second, you don’t have to use your gas to “find” the product. You sit in your living room and ask someone to do the shopping for you. You may be able to mail or ship the product for less than the S & H the company charges but think about this: the company has to pay the person you called to order the Xpress (or other product) and another employee (yes some people do still have jobs) to “pick” the products off the warehouse shelves, package (include materials here), and prepare for shipping — that’s what is covered in the handling part of shipping and handling. If you go to a retail store, the handling is included in the price, but you still have to use you own gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, etc. and time to find the product–self shipping and haldling! How much do you value your time? It’s probably going to take you at least an hour. If you make $40,000 a year that’s $20.00/hr. I don’t know how much the average warehouse worker makes, but you probably get the picture by now.

  135. I am thinking about ordering one, but the issue that seems to continually crop up is the teflon coatings. For the people that are using these, does the coating start coming off soon after you start using it, or is that the exception rather than the rule. To me, if the coating comes off, it isn’t worth the money.

  137. My neighbor had the 101 unit for two years, unused, and asked me if I’d like to try it. I did. She didn’t offer to sell it to me, so I gave it back with an “I loved it”!!

So I went online and purchased a Ready Set Go unit.
I too fell subject to the recipie add on. I sent an e-mail regarding this recipie add on, and rec’d a computer generated supply that my inquiry will be responded to within 48 hrs. Afraid that this would ship before I could have this removed, I then called the 800 Customer Service number. The rep said that they could not view my e-mail order until the next day.

I called the next day, and received resolution. The gentleman cancelled my orig order, and he entered another order for me, for just the RSG. I received an e-mail notification for the cancellation. AND the original inquiry I sent via e-mail was also responded to.

I have had good luck dealing with the company’s representation. Now I am just waiting for my RSG to arrive.

  143. I`m not generally a fan of infomercial gadgets, but the X-press RSG looked like a practical item. And it is.It preheats quickly and cooks quickly, and uses far less power than a conventional oven and wont heat up the kitchen. How long will it last? Who knows, but it works well and is easy to clean. As someone else observed, the non-stick surface on the pan inserts and cooker is fairly delicate, although improved over the old version. But if you use your own atomizer to dispense cooking oil,as someone suggested, and use only plastic utensils, should be no problem. The RSG is great for personal pizzas and box cake or muffin mixes, but also great for omelettes.Even if you`re an imbecile in the kitchen, you cant really screw up much,as long as you properly calculate cooking times when not using the recipe book.

  145. I had the GT Express 101. Love it, but had to returm it because the coating came off.

Has the new version been improved with a different coating? If not can one be designed that has an enamel or silicone? Something safe.

My mother wants one and I would love to suprise her with the new version. I there is still a defect, it would be a waist of money. Please be truthful and let me know if the problem has been corrected. I really want to get my Mother one.

  147. To the person who asked if the Redi Set Go will drain off the grease as the Foreman grilling machine does–no, it does not.

I’m waiting to hear whether the teflon is better on the new Redi Set Go than it was on the old version–GT Express.

I love that they added a pan with no divider, but I wish it were removable like the others are, for washing.

I’m not surprised the Redi Set Go does German pancakes so well–it makes super light omelettes, too.

  151. I just received my Redi Set Go today. I ordered the extra pan set especially for the full round pan that is used for the pineapple upside down cake. I can not believe that not all the recipes shown on TV were not included. You’d think that especially after purchasing the extra pans, they could at LEAST through in all the recipes they show. Sadly the recipe for the pineapple upside down cake was NOT included. I called and asked about it but was told that I would have to enroll in the recipe club to get it (another $15.00 a month). I think this is crazy. Does anyone have this paeticular recipe and is willing to share?
For Deborah….. The three ingredients for the meatballs are …. 20 ounces ground turkey, 1 egg, 1 cup stove top stuffing. Basically mix together and shape into golf size balls. Bake for 10 minutes.
    Thanks!!!

  153. Love the product but it does have it’s drawbacks, the worst being the non-stick surface has already started to come off after one week of using it every day. I’m using the removable pans so the base is not where I’m having the problem: it’s the top. I seasoned it before using it the first time, I use the non-stick sprays as recommended by the company, I use the plastic spatula, and I clean it with a sponge designed for use on non-stick surfaces. I’m going to have to call customer service tomorrow and find out what they can do for me. I do not want to give up on it yet.

I’ve only cooked meat (chicken breasts) in it once and will not do it again. The juices have nowhere to go so it spilled out over the sides yet the chicken came out dry. It’s wonderful for baked goods (cupcakes and muffins) and for personal sized pizzas. Also made pancakes stuffed with sausages but I cooked my sausages first, in a pan on the stove. These items take longer in the oven and the oven heats up the whole house. For this alone it is worth the price, at least to me.

I am signed up for the pan club (I chose that option, it didn’t choose me…online ordering is easy as long as you pay attention) and I’m looking forward to the bundt and the waffle pans! That is, assuming customer service makes me happy.

The RSG is NOT available yet on QVC. Only the Express 101 is at this time. At first they told me it was, but then gave me the order number for the Express 101. I wish that they did have it. Then we would have a 30 day warranty. Hope this helps.

  169. I have the older model and still use it from time to time. When I’d evacuated prior to Hurricane Rita I took it with me and used it every day to cook one meal and sometimes two in the hotel room to cut back on expenses. It was great although the teflon coating took a bit of a beating. About 6 months ago I bought the Ready Set Go Express being very impressed with the versitile pans and ordered the first set of pans when I ordered the machine. Some of them I’ve yet to use but with grandkids wanting special “Nana(that’s me!) Snacks”, we’ve made numerous mini cakes and cini minies! They love them and have so much fun eating their baby cakes! I recently ordered the single round pan- price was kinda steep with the expense of shipping but I’ve had more fun using it and my neighbors are thrilled that I’ve gotten it! I mix a regular cake mix and bake in the all in one pan (8-9 minutes a layer). I get five layers of cake with a regular box of cake mix. I make one cake a three layer and one a two layer. I keep the one I want and take the other to my neighbors who have done so many nice things for me through the years. They are recent empty nesters and appreciate not having a whole cake but still having a fresh baked extremely moist cake to enjoy. I would suggest to anyone interested in getting this wonderful inventive machine to not hesitate and be sure to get the all in one pan insert (no divider) it’s so handy. Honestly, this is to me just as much fun ( yes, really fun to use!!) as the Easy Bake oven(s) my friends had-I was never allowed! Silly maybe but it almost makes me giddy to use it. Believe it or not I do have a life lol, I just really love this little red machine. The recipes that come with it are interesting too, I’ve used quite a few of them and they’re really nice!
Thanks for giving me the chance to rave about such a great product.

  171. Okay, I’m back again. My RSG has been in storage and I’ve been using my Nuwave. Before that I was using my RSG several times a day. I’m starting to use my RSG again.

First, let me answer some questions.

Does the coating come off? YES, especially if you use it a lot. It doesn’t happen immediately, but after a while of heavy use. I found that cooking steaks with excess marinade/liquid does mess up the coating, not to mention it leaves a big mess. I also think the process of cleaning the mess also messes up the coating. Perhaps I was being too abrasive. Unfortunately, I think the best solution is to get the full round pan. That way you can clean it easier or just put it in the dishwasher. But if you were planning on getting it anyways, then it’s no big deal. I’m thinking about ordering it and then canceling because I don’t need the other pans.

RSG vs GFG? Given the factors of money, health, and two people, it’s depends. I guess if your looking for a easy cheap health way to grill food, then go with the GFG. If you’re looking for a bit more, then go with the RSG.

Misc. Obviously, the RSG is better than the GT 101. I really think you can only order accessories from the website. And the yahoo group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Xpress101/ I think the pineapple upside down cake is pretty simple. Place the pineapples and cherries at the bottom of the full round pan then pour the cake mix on top of it. Then bake as usual.

The RSG is fun to use. Looking back, I should have ordered the full round pan to begin with. If you are thinking about getting the RSG, I would really recommend getting the full insert pan and canceling the pans once you get it. While it is unfortunate that the extra pan is needed to really get the full use of the RSG, I think it is really worth it considering the benefits.

  173. Slight update.

It seems you can order individual pans, although you save over 20% on each pan if you join the “Perfect Pan Collection Club”. It seem the individual pans is a better choice if you only want 1 pan or if you don’t want a recurring charge. I’m just going to order the 1 pan I need. Even though it comes free for joining the club, I don’t want to deal with the recurring charges.

  175. I got 3 ready-set-go, one for my daughter and 2 for us.

    1. I ordered them on line so I did not have the problems of other users that got charge for some of the other products the company sell.

    2. The product is well designed and works as advertise. The recipes are great and I got from another source a compilation of most of the recipes for the grill (http://www.ourgrnbusiness.com/xpress_redi_set_go.html)

    3. The inserts make the grill very versatile. It would be nice when they release the waffle insert.

    4. The quality of the product is average but the coating is terrible. I studied all the way to protect the coating, I have been very careful and in less than 2 month the coating is peeling off mainly on the lid, but also start on the bottom. I’m sure that calling customer service will not help even if they replace it, in few weeks it will be the same. I am looking in ways to remove the coating and just grease it well before using it. It is a shame. I wish they would have chosen stainless steel with no coating.

I looked in way to redo the non-sticky coating by myself but from all the info I got it is not possible.

In summary because of the very low quality non-stick coating I would not recommend this product that otherwise would be great.

I even cooked boneless, skinless chicken breasts and they came out juicy and tender. I’ve had the Foreman Grill and believe the Redi-Set-Go is so much more versatile. If you can dream it, you can cook it in this thing.

I’m a little disappointed that they charge for recipes

  185. I really was not sure whether to order this item or not. It all looked so good on T.V. but maybe too good to be true.
Well…we received it this week and already have made fabulous omelettes, cheesy tortillas and last night the best of all. I did wild salmon topped with fresh asparagus, brushed a little olive oil, placed the salmon pieces and asparagus in the pan and turned on the timer.
Dinner was cooking, I had time to set the table and have a glass of wine and when the bell went I was thrilled with the results. The salmon was moist and flavorful and the asparagus was cooked tender crisp with grill marks on it.
PERFECT….I am so glad I ordered this product and have already recommended to my friends. As a Registered Nutritionist I was particularly pleased at the low fat, only the healthy fats of the salmon and how all the nutrients in the food were kept in the container. Another great thing….what an easy cleanup!!!
    JUST LOVE IT!!

  187. I wasn’t going to order the xpress RSG because of the shipping costs, then I went to EBay and got a new one for $34. and the shipping was $14. I got it in the mail the next day. The cooking times in theinfomercial are too short. It takes longer to cook than they say, but only about 3 or 4 min depending on what you are cooking. They also show cooking “fried” chicken but it is not in any of the recipes. All in all, I like it. Especially the pizza. The size is perfect for one person. I made the crusts and cooked each one for 2 min then removed it. After I used all the dough, I made an assembly line and filled them all, then froze them in quart ziplock bags. Now I only have to pop one in and it is ready. Don’t have to bother with making the crust each time. Overall, I recommend it.

I unboxed the unit and proceeded to make an omlete. pan coating came off on my omlete on first use! Trash!! I called customer service, Which is in the Phillipines, and they basically told me to piss off. On top of that they billed my credit card 3 times. This junk cost me $120.00. Now they are sending me bills because I cancelled my credit card after 3 charges. The statements they send have Hieroglythics for the phone number, so you have to call the Phillipines. Do NOT BUY this product!!!

  191. I watched the infomercial today and it looked like a really handy thing to have. Since I am newly widowed and don’t eat much, it might be ok for me. But I am a bit concerned about ordering it online, because I am very vision impaired.

I think if this was sold in stores, there’d be a lot more of them sold.

Thanks for whoever posted the link for the recipe site above. I can better read online with my software enlargement feature in my computer. Little recipe books are really tough for me to see.

What a shame that most of the companies in America never give those of us that are vision impaired or blind a thought, when making new products. There’s another whole new market out here for those that would make at least one or two items/versions of products for us! The vision impaired community is growing quite fast.

  193. 1. Be extra careful with the teflon on the pan. Season it with oil and heat up before using. Then use spray non stick religiously. Do not scrub with anything more than a soft paper towel. Nothing harsh. Rinse and wipe dry the insertable pans. Do not put in dishwasher.
    2. They are guaranteed for one year, covered by warranty and if you order from the company direct, they will replace it for you if damaged or defective. I had one that had a bad timer.. they will ask you for the code on the bottom so dont throw out until you reorder. If you do scratch the surface you can still use the insertable pans..
i love mine and bought one for my mom and my brother.. fantastic little machine, and really fun to experiment with leftovers, old candy ,etc..

  195. Okay, Gonzo here again. Another update. This is being sold now through QVC. At the moment, it’s being sold for $35.76 + $6.72 S&H + Taxes. QVC ships pretty fasts. The $6.72 is for either USPS express or UPS ground shipping. Also, it comes with the bundt and heart pans. If you were to order those 2 pans together from the website it would come out to $35.80 (including shipping).

So if the whole credit card charges thing was keeping you from getting this, then it’s no longer an issue.

The nonstick, I think that is still an issue. I’m hoping that Cathy stepped it up and had them put a better nonstick coating on it now that she brought it to QVC. QVC usually carries really good products when it comes to exclusive partnerships. I just order one from them. So if it is any better, you can bet that I will update here. Well, regardless, I’ll update here.

Either way, be very careful with the non-stick. I put mine through a lot of abuse, because the little guy looked like it could handle it. But I guess not. The solution that I found that works best is to buy/use the full round pan.

I could go on about how the people who have had a bad experience with credit card charges I feel is entirely their fault and should not come on here complaining and bad-mouthing the product and the company solely because they were not competent enough to pay attention. But I won’t go there.

  197. I have enough pans and would like to discontinue receiving them. If you would advertise the pans and let the consumers decide when and if they want them it be an asset. Some of the pans sent are not used and I find this expensive. Let me hear from you.

  199. Gonzo here again. I just got mine today. So from the time I ordered to the time I got it was less than a week and a half. Not bad.

So the non-stick coating. Well, honestly, it looks like it definitely has been improved. The thing is that I don’t quite remember what the coating looked like when it was new on my original RSG. That was like 8 months ago. But just on first impression, it does look a lot better than what I remember. I don’t know much about cookware and non-stick coatings. But it looks like the higher quality coatings have what seems like small metallic particles in the finish. From what I remember, my original RSG did not have this. But as I’m writing this I’m looking at them both and I’m looking at areas on my original RSG where there hasn’t been much abuse and I’m not finding this metallic particle property. All I really see is a single layer coating that looks like it was rolled on. The coating on the new one looks more like it was sprayed on. The coating on the original RSG looks more like the coating on the insert pans. The coating on the new RSG looks better than the coating on the insert pans. And I always kind of thought that the coating on the insert pans was better than the coating on the original RSG. Or at the very least, that it would hold up to more abuse.

So I guess after all that. I’m calling it. The coating has been improved. I haven’t used it yet, but I guess only time will tell if the coating will hold up. And I do think that it will. I plan on taking way better care this time around, not to mention I’ll continue to use the full insert pan.

I’ll report back if I run into any problems.

    Delores,
In case I didn’t make it clear in my previous post, you can order individual insert pans.

  201. I own the Redi Set Go like Gonzo. I was surprised to read some of the negative comments here. The Redi Set Go is a blast to cook with and you can easily see people like it. Won’t change your life or anything but in my experience I found that it really does what they say it does.

Maybe some people don’t buy infomercial products often like I do. Ordering on the phone takes forever and they try to sell you stuff you don’t want. Take my advice:

Buy on the web where you can read all the information first, think about what you’re doing, and read the fine print too!

As others have pointed out be careful with the nonstick coating – this is true of any nonstick surface. They will all wear out eventually and you should be as gentle as you can.

There is a store in the web page where you can see everything they have. Extra pans and some other accessories. I just have the cooker and I’m happy with it though I’m thinking about some of the extra pans. Anyway maybe this will help you. The Redi Set Go is fun.

  203. I just bought this at a local discount store so thankfully I didn’t have to pay any shipping costs. I have used it about 5-6 times and I LOVE IT! Its super simple to use, no grease, no butter, no fat – just a bit of cooking spray. Nothing has stuck in it yet and I have made a variety of items. I am now in search of more recipes for the RSG.

  209. Impossible to cancel the extras they send every month. Ordering this product is a big mistake. They will continue to send you extras and will not stop sending them no matter how many times you call and get confirmation that they have. You will have to go to your bank and likely be charged a fee to block them.

  213. I just ordered my RSG from the website and I didnt order anything I didnt want, so I wont be charged for anything hidden, however I wish I had read these reviews before I ordered, I would have gotten mine through QVC, you can order 2 complete RSG’s WITH all the pans (except the cake insert) for LESS than what you pay for the BOGO offer with the pan club option, from the RSG website, and since they had already charged my CC before I realized this, its too late to cancel my order and re-order from QVC! I recomend anyone wanting to order this to do so from QVC, expecially if you want more than 1!!

  215. I got my xpress ready set go for Christmas, and I used it for the first time last night. I made chicken breast with asparagus and mushrooms. I also made the same dish with pork chops. In all I made 4 dinners. They turned out really great but by the time I got to my 4 th dinner the timer no longer worked. After examining it I realized it had melted. After trying to clean it three times it still isn’t clean. So my review is mixed, great results but not a very sturdy product.

  219. Hello everyone, thank you for all of your comments. After reading your varied reviews, I decided to make my purchase of the RSG. Currently, the RSG website has Buy 1 Get 1 Free. I paid 39.90 for 2. Like many of you have experienced, the S & H (for each of course)was almost as much as each RSG. That’s okay, because of the type of offer. With the S & H for each, I paid $69.80.

Ordering online was easy. I made sure I said No to all offers I did not want. Later, I may buy additional pan inserts through the club. But not now!

I will write my next review when I receive my order.

Share more with you soon. Happy RSG eating!

  229. I have a Xpress Redi-Set-Go and like the GT Xpress I know it cooks fast. So I tried the German Pancake and it was great. Now the Pizza, I went to Fresh & Easy and bought their ready made pizza dough, and made pizza’s for dinner. YUMMY, very easy to make, I use both of the units I got which makes for a quick dinner, from start to finish in under 15 minutes and not having to heat up the kitchen… I like the products, yes, they are a little on the cheap side but I’m happy, hey, anything to help cook a good meal without a large mess…

  231. I have read a lot of the post, and they are either made up, or my xpress is broke and not working. It took me almost twenty minutes to make brownies. And when I tried to make a omlet, I finally got tired after ten minutes, and dumped it in the trash. This is no wear near fast. My three in one waffle iron is a lot faster, better, and it was cheaper. And there was no extras to buy afterwords, other mixes, and things to cook.

  233. This is a fabulous machine and I love the results. I could use it 3 times a day for meals which is very convienent.
I only wish the quality was better. The teflon coating scratches easy and is wearing off and after 6 months of use the timer does not work anymore. The timer was a great feature as you did not have to watch the clock. As much as I love this machine I am disappointed with the quality.
